Chief Bergamine Appointed To Advisory Committee
Fayetteville Police Chief Tom Bergamine has been appointed to the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts’ Drug Treatment Court (DTC) Advisory Committee. The designation was made by Judge John W. Smith, the Director of the Administrative Office of the Courts and is considered an important one due to the role of drug treatment courts in the justice, treatment and social service systems.            “Drug treatment courts have an important role in holding adult offenders, juvenile delinquents and parent respondents accountable and in reducing their substance abuse,” said Judge Smith. “The success of drug treatment courts depends largely on those who are willing to tackle the myriad of issues and hurdles that stand in the way of positive change.”             Police Chief Tom Bergamine, who has been an outspoken figure in the local arena regarding quality of life issues and how drugs can have an amplified effect on crime in society, takes his stance to the state level. “I accept this appointment wholeheartedly,” Bergamine said. “Anything we can do to help make society a better place for those affected by issues like this, be it the offenders or the victims, we need to do.”             - END -
