As a result of new information received overnight, Detectives located and arrested 29-year old Mario Andrette McNeill.
Fayetteville Police received a tip on Wednesday evening from an employee of a Sanford Hotel indicating that a small child matching Shaniya’s description was seen in the presence of a male early Tuesday morning, November 10th.
Detectives responded to the hotel and attempted to obtain video surveillance footage. After reviewing the video footage and obtaining a positive identification on Shaniya Davis, investigators were then able identify the male as that of Mario McNeill.
Interviews conducted throughout the night with McNeill revealed new information in this case leading to the dismissal of the prior kidnapping charges against Clarence Coe and the arrest of McNeill for first degree kidnapping.
McNeill is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond. He is scheduled for a first court appearance at the Cumberland County Courthouse this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. A photograph is attached to this release.
At this time, Detectives continue in their aggressive search and follow-up on all information that continues to be received by the police department, with the hope of finding Shaniya Davis and returning her safely to her family.
Additional information will be disseminated at such time that it becomes available.
