Traffic Fatality
The deceased occupant from the traffic fatality has been identified as Robert Young, 85 years old, of the 2600 block of Cumberland Road.  Mr. Young was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Fatima Young, 78 years old, of the same address.  Mr. and Mrs. Young are married. The preliminary investigation has revealed that Mr. and Mrs. Young were traveling northeast on Legion Road.  They proceeded through the intersection of Legion Road and Owen Drive.  A vehicle driven by Dianne Murphy, 57 years old, of the 100 block of Heartwood Drive, Raeford, North Carolina, was traveling west on Owen Drive and ran the red light at the intersection of Owen Drive and Legion Road.  Ms. Murphy’s vehicle struck Mr. and Mrs. Young’s vehicle.  Ms. Murphy’s vehicle then struck a vehicle on Southern Avenue driven by Joy Landry, 26 years old, of the 3200 block of Big Pine Drive.  Mrs. Young and Ms. Murphy were transported to Cape Fear Valley Hospital.  Their status at this time is unknown.  Ms. Landry was not injured. The traffic accident is still under investigation by the Traffic Unit.  No charges have been filed at this time.  ORIGINAL RELEASE (1/23/2009) Fayetteville Police Officers are currently on scene of a three car traffic accident located at Owen Drive and Southern Avenue.  Officers were called to the scene at 12:29 p.m.  An occupant in one of the vehicles is confirmed deceased.  Officers from the Traffic Unit are currently on scene investigating the incident.
