UPDATE: Missing Person

On Thursday, February 12th, the case of missing person Joseph Putnam was assigned to the Homicide Squad, as information obtained in the preliminary investigation led detective’s to believe that Putnam may be endangered.

As part of protocol, the Homicide Squad will typically adopt a missing person’s case when circumstances warrant their intervention.  As such, little information has been released until now.

As the investigation unfolded, it was confirmed that the individual initially thought to be a person of interest, actually used Putnam’s ATM card with his knowledge and permission.  The individual is not considered a suspect in anyway.  His identity will not be released.

At this time, the investigation is being downgraded as Homicide Detectives have obtained credible evidence indicating that Putnam has returned to Arkansas.  In addition, the investigation has revealed that Putnam has had contact with friends and family members since being reported as missing.

This matter has now been turned over to the military and Arkansas Authorities.  As such, there will be no further information released by the Fayetteville Police Department.

We thank you for your patience and assistance in this case.
