B-Street Initiative

Last evening, the Fayetteville Police Department hosted a meeting for residents from the B-Street community to educate and explore strategies as part of an initiative that began late last year to clean up the area and reduce crime.

Police Chief Tom Bergmaine along other police and city staff listened to comments and took questions from residents who expressed their concerns about the safety and appearance of their neighborhood. Bergamine stated “the Fayetteville Police Department remains committed to partnering with these residents, whether homeowner or renter, to take back their community.”

City Manager Dale Iman and Councilman Charles Evans, who were also in attendance, addressed community members pledging complete participation from all city entities.   Councilman Evans also held a meeting with community members earlier in the week.

Prior to the residential meetings, the Police Department had previously met with business owners in the area.  Participants, who confirmed their commitment to the project, were briefed on specific goals that were being addressed by the initiative.

City Manager Dale Iman has envisioned this initial project as “a future model for other areas within the city.”
