Homicide Investigation

On December 4, 2010 officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of Emerson Avenue, at approximately 11 pm, in reference to an unresponsive infant. The infant, 9- month old Somiah Renee Prieto was transported to Cape Fear Valley Hospital where Medical professionals were able to resuscitate her.  Unfortunately, Somiah developed complications overnight and died the next morning. Her body was sent to the Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

During the course of the autopsy, the Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be a "non-accidental head injury". Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department's Homicide Division are investigating the incident. The department will release more information as it becomes available.
