Today at 1340 hrs Fayetteville Police Officers responded to the area of Country Club Drive and Rosehill Road in reference to a three-car traffic accident. The initial investigation has revealed that a 2000 Toyota driven by Lee Roy Syfrett (77 years old, Dobbin Holmes Road address) was traveling east on Country Club Drive. Mr. Syfrett lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center line. His vehicle then struck a second vehicle that was traveling west on Country Club Drive. A third vehicle, also traveling west on Country Club Drive, tried to avoid the collision, and was rear-ended by a fourth vehicle traveling behind him. That impact forced vehicle three off the roadway into a ditch. The third vehicle then overturned. A fifth vehicle traveling west on Country Club Drive was able to avoid the collision but ran off the right side of the road and struck the curb.
The passenger in Mr. Syfrett’s vehicle, Barbara Syfrett, died as a result of her injuries. Mr. Syfrett was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for his injuries. No update on his condition is available at this time. A passenger in vehicle two was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Hospital with a serious leg injury.
The accident is currently being investigated by the Fayetteville Police Department Traffic Unit. No charges have been filed at this time.
