Robbery Suspect Wearing Bullet Proof Vest
On 5/10/11, officers arrested and charged John Oalton Miles Jr. (27) of Coolshade Drive in Fayetteville for Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
At approximately 11:30 AM, Miles approached a suspect on Wichita Drive and asked for a ride. When the victim declined, Miles brandished a sawed-off .22 caliber rifle. The victim ran from the scene and called police. Based on the description given by the victim, officers located Miles near Morganton Road Elementary School and after a brief foot pursuit, they took him into custody. Once apprehended, officers discovered that in addition to the .22 rifle, Miles was wearing a military style ballistic vest, and had a machete, a pocket knife and a shank-like knife in his possession. Miles was processed and is currently being held in the Cumberland County Jail on a $35,000 secured bond.
