21st Annual Police Awards Banq

On Friday, May 29th, the Fayetteville Police Department will honor officers, civilian employees, volunteers and members of the community, at the 21st Annual Awards Banquet.  The banquet will be held at the Cumberland County Crown Coliseum Expo Center. Dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m, and will be followed by the awards ceremony.

 

The individuals receiving awards have gone above and beyond the call of duty in their respective positions. The awards are based on actions performed during 2008 and have been approved by a board consisting of a Captain, Lieutenant, Sergeant, Two Officers, and a Civilian.  The board is selected every two years by way of voting. 

 

The most prestigious award to be given during the ceremony will be Police Officer of the Year.  This year’s recipient is Persons Detective Kellie Berg.  Other notable awards include the Life Saving and Police Heart Awards given to officers who have saved a life or were injured in the line of duty.  Other awards to be distributed include:  Department Citation, Merit, Individual & Unit Commendations, Good Conduct and Longevity.  Several police department volunteers will receive special Presidential Service Awards.  Additional awards will be presented to members of the community for their outstanding contributions in support of the Fayetteville Police Department’s continual efforts to make Fayetteville a safer place for its citizens. 

 

For the first time since its inception, this year’s banquet will be open to the public as a means to engage the community and heighten awareness regarding actual police activities. 

 

Tickets are $25 per person and are available at the following locations:   Systel Business Equipment, 2604 Ft. Bragg Road, Callahan & Rice 129 Franklin Street, and Allegra Print & Imaging, 3724 Sycamore Dairy Road.   Please note public ticket sales will end on Friday, May 22nd.   

 

Media personnel are welcome and encouraged to attend this event.  As a good faith effort, any media entity “covering” the event will receive two complimentary dinner tickets.  As such, any media attendee must RSVP to Public Information Officer, Theresa Chance, at (910) 433-1896 no later than Wednesday, May 20th.
