Today (May 18, 2009) at approximately 1439 hrs Fayetteville police officers responded to the intersection of Raeford Road and Purdue Drive in reference to a three-car traffic accident. The initial investigation has revealed that a vehicle ran the red light at Raeford Road and Purdue Drive then struck a second vehicle in the side that had the green light. After that collision a third car on Raeford Road was struck. The driver of the vehicle that was struck in the side was transported to Cape Fear Valley Hospital. That driver’s condition is not known. Inbound traffic on Raeford Road was diverted onto Purdue Drive for over an hour until the roadway could be cleared. When further information is received an updated press release will be put out. There is nothing further to put out at this time.
Officers from the Fayetteville Police Department’s Traffic Unit are currently investigating the accident.
