Robbery Suspects Beaten
Shortly after midnight on May 23, Fayetteville Police Officers responded to the area of 29 Cambridge Arms in reference the report of shots fired and subjects down. Upon arriving on scene, officers found two black males lying in the parking lot with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds and gunshot wounds. Several other Hispanic males and females, many of which were covered in blood were also found walking around the parking lot. The investigation revealed that the 2 black males attempted to rob a female (Maria Guebara, H/F (47)) from El Salvador of her purse. The robbery occurred in front of building 29, which housed multiple family members / friends of Guebara. When Guebara began screaming her family / friends, which consisted of nearly 10-15 people, filed out of multiple apartments. One of the black male suspects fired a handgun at the approaching family / friend. The round passed through the clothing of Alex Echeverria, H/M (32), but failed to strike Echeverria's body. Both suspects were chased on foot, caught and disarmed by the relatives / friends of Guebara. Both suspects were shot during the initial struggle (with the suspect's gun) and then the family / friends severely beat, stabbed/cut both suspects. After seeing both his partners beaten, a third black male fled the area in a Silver Buick. Detectives were contacted and responded to investigate. One of the black male suspects is listed as a PIRU Blood gang member and was wearing a red bandana across his face when he initially approached Guebara.
The investigation is on-going and no charges have been filed at this point. One of the black male suspects is on life support and the other suspect is expected to be released from the hospital within the hour. The suspect's names will be released once the next of kin notification has been made.
