Mock Emergency Preparedness E

The Fayetteville Police Department would like to advise the public of a special event taking place on Thursday, June 11th, 2009.

On the afternoon of the 11th, the Fayetteville Police Department in conjunction with Fayetteville Technical Community College, (FTCC), will be conducting a mock Emergency Preparedness training exercise.  The exercise will officially begin at 1400 hours and will utilize the entire FTCC campus.

The exercise will involve the activation of the college’s emergency operation plan as well as the Fayetteville Police Department’s critical incident plan. Members of the Fayetteville Fire Department and the Cumberland County Emergency Operation Center will participate in the event as resource providers.

The goal of the operation is to increase the awareness level of potential emergency situations that could occur on campus, and to increase operational effectiveness of all first responders.

At 1330 hours on the day of the exercise, a special briefing will be conducted by Captain Bradley Chandler, Incident Commander for the exercise.  The briefing will take place in the FTCC parking lot located behind the Kiwanis Recreation Center.  The parking lot may be accessed via Ft. Bragg Road or McNeill Circle.  The parking lot will also serve as the official staging area throughout the exercise.

As a precaution, on the afternoon of the exercise, motorists should find alternate routes of travel in and around the FTCC campus as the following roads will be completely shut down:

§         Hull Road at Ft. Bragg Road

§         Hull Road at Devers Street

Business owners in and around the FTCC campus will be forewarned about the exercise as to not cause undue alarm.

Media personnel are welcome to attend the exercise and as such, will require attending the briefing at 1330 hours.  Interviews with Captain Chandler will be granted from 1300 to 1330 hours.
