Internet Parlor Robber Faces Multiple Charges

Police have charged a man for at least two robberies of Internet Cafés in the Fayetteville area. Darrell Alan Thompson, 21, of 2421 Ireland Drive has been charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and 2nd Degree Kidnapping today for a robbery that occurred on 8/1/2010 at the Lucky Charms internet café at 1111 Ireland Drive.

Thompson, already in jail for the robbery of a Lucky Charms internet café in Hope Mills that occurred on 8/4/2010, has already been charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Assault on a Female, two counts of Safecracking and 2nd Degree Trespassing in that case.

Police Chief Tom Bergamine has repeatedly issued statements indicating that a predominance of crime in our area is being committed by repeat offenders who continue to engage in crimes after they are released. Additionally, Chief Bergamine publicly supported last month’s vote by the State House of Representatives to shut down video sweepstakes gambling cafes and cited these types of crimes as the reason.

Thompson remains in the Cumberland County Jail under a $125,000 secured bond for the Hope Mills robbery. He has a bond hearing set for the Fayetteville charges today at 2pm.
