Fayetteville Police Department
Long Arm of Law Extending Through Social Media
The Fayetteville Police Department’s FPDFacebook.com page topped 1,100 “friends” this morning as its new video series Bluelight TV debuted on the site. Social media has become a huge part of Police Chief Tom Bergamine’s Community Wellness Plan, in an effort to interact and share information between police and the citizens of Fayetteville.               After finding success with the citizen alert system Nixle.com over the past few months, the department launched the FPDFacebook.com page, which features photos of fugitives, the names and photos of those arrested on prostitution stings as well as other crimes and more recently, surveillance video of crimes caught on tape. The newest addition is the department’s new show, Bluelight TV.                Bluelight TV will typically be released as two or three minute news-style video clips about the department and will range from current events and issues to crime prevention information or general information about the department. In addition, the segments will be featured together as a 30-minute program on Time Warner’s public access channel.              In an effort to capitalize on the social media trend, the department also launched its Twitter page at FPDTwitter.com. Most of the tweets will duplicate information released on Nixle and also feature photos of suspects and fugitives in the area.              - END -
